„I have often thought about small optimizations in the company " explains Uli Tolksdorf of TST, "but only the re-equipment of the machine brought real progress." In the beginning of 2002 the master carpenter decided for a retrofit of the companie's (5-axes) Notmeyer machine. The new control should be flexible and open, easy to handle and permit an uncomplicated binding to the existing CAD systems of the carpenter's workshop. The solution should naturally also be favorable in acquisition and enterprise!

After a detailed InterNet search and discussions with specialists he tested TRIMETA's EdiTasc software and decided for this efficient and nevertheless economical configuration, a so-called "open control solution".

Instead of the traditional "black box" control, which makes the customer dependent on a control manufacturer, TST chose a solution, where control and driver consist of exchangeable standard components which are controlled by the CNC software EdiTasc under Windows.

TST decided for a PC-card from Isel automation and three servo motors of Bosch Rexroth, which have path speeds of more than 60m/min.. EdiTasc completes the package with 3D-continuous interpolation along paths and look ahead speed-optimized interpolation.

With software of the IMOS AG Uli Tolksdorf develops his construction designs, which are stored directly in the DXF format. The EdiTasc CNC software generates from this file a milling program and controls the machine from the Windows environment as well. This saves time.

This is achieved by TRIMETA'S real time kernel, which synchronizes all processes on a CPU. "The whole system is very convincing because it is open and flexible", Tolksdorf explains. "I am no more depending on one single control manufacturer, I can integrate favorable standard components". Result: The retrofit was made for only 10.000 EUR, and thus more favorable as expected.
